Introductions

• Lloyd: I've been doing a lot of coaching; involved with the Character Council for Fort Collins; still doing the weekly newspaper column; this week I'm going to a Rotary Leadership Conference (250 high school kids)
• Carl: Still working on building the business case for coaching in HP; working on our quarterly coaching newsletter (for coaches and leaders/sponsors)
• Mandy: I'm working on the Enhancing Personal Effectiveness workshop (based on my book) www.nccoaches.org/Notes/EnhPersEffFlyer.pdf; I did a presentation for the Aspen Club on retirement coaching; I'm working with the USGS on a bison study; I just completed the Slaughterhouse Run
• Pat: I just published an article in Fitness Magazine; and Choice Magazine will be publishing an article soon; I'm working on "Coaching the Global Village" (presented at the Brussels ICF conference) which brings the coach approach to third world and am lining up people to help make it happen - look for details coming in Pat's newsletter www.lifecoachtraining.com/resources/newsletter/newsletter.shtml
• Susan: I'm working on a new workshop (starting August 1st) "Map It; Pack It; Run It: The Business Leader's River Guide to Creating Success" - information will be put on Susan's website www.keepitsimplecoaching.com; I had a client ask me to help him out with some software project management; this is an outgrowth of "Keep It Simple Coaching"; I've had people calling about instruction on canoeing; I'm finding that clients are coming out of the woodwork
• Will: I have a radio show on the internet "Performance Coaching with Will Matthews" www.healthylife.net and my website is www.secondwindperformance.com; I focus on financial service professionals which has been a great niche for me because referrals are in their DNA; I've been working on the idea of "expanding the glimpse" which helps people to expand the little glimpses they have of a positive future; I'm president-elect for DCF; I've trained coaches through Coach Training Alliance and Anthony Robbins - I love the diversity of all this
• John: I've been working on how people with ADD interact with others on "crux issues" during an intense time at work; I went to the ADDA conference in Orlando and met a lot of coaches there
• Holly: I coached myself through a job transition in teaching so I'm happy to be at 30% time; I'll be working with coaching students; I just met with some awesome women in Arizona; I'm looking into the idea of combining Doula with Coaching, to provide a broader spectrum of services to new parents

Announcements

• We have the Harmony Library again for the August 9th meeting - the topic will be using Maslow's Hierarchy in Coaching

Strategic Planning Information

• Kristen is heading up the creation of a strategic plan for where our group is headed. We will do an exercise at the August meeting:

What: Please bring 12 copies of your favorite Values Clarification Exercise to the August meeting to distribute amongst the team members. Individually and together we will work on identifying what the core values of NCCA are. Why: Identifying core values is a great place to start this strategic work, by building a foundation to create and enhance our purpose and mission. Then, we will be very clear when we begin event planning and decision making for our future. The goal is to have a plan by December, for 2007.

Pat Williams - Group Coaching

• Why would you do groups? Why not?
• Group Coaching can be a great add-on to your existing services, it's a great freebie
• You can do groups of people who share a common interest and get paid quite well (because of the number of participants)
• Pat trademarked a concept called The Sounding Board to help coach small business owners in a non-competitive atmosphere (similar goals, but not directly competing) in connection with Daytona College

• "Be ready for the light bulb to go on, because group coaching opportunities are everywhere"
• The synergy of the group is what's valuable. Don't let it just turn into sharing.
• You can do group coaching using a tool as the core - gives you a common focus on a specific topic for each session - could use anything in the self help section
• Pat's been doing a Falling Awake monthly group for 5 years (this is a free downloadable book on www.fallingawake.com)
• Never say "this is what you should do" - this is coaching
• Pat does all his group coaching by phone. He does them for a minimum of 12 weeks, because it takes time to develop and bring out the wisdom. He prefers twice a month.
• Ginger Cockerham www.coachginger.com is totally focused on group coaching in the financial services market. Resource: Creating, Collecting, and Coaching Groups (on CD). This is masterful stuff. She never goes into a company without an advocate. Pat: "A RainMaker is a person who sends you at least one A-class client per year"
• Where do you find these people? That's always the big marketing question, in everything we do.
• Participants find out that everything they bring up is an experience shared by the others.
• The best groups are 4-12 people. An hour call, 6 people. 12-15 minutes per person, probably no more.
• You can shift people between individual coaching and group coaching over time, either direction.

• Idea: Do a monthly 2 hour coaching forum once a month, for free, and advertise topics 3 months in advance
• The facilitator is "The Compassionate Edge for The Courageous Conversation" - watching out for where each person is at.
• Ask each person to come with their topic/issue/question to each meeting.
• There's a group coaching agreement, just like an individual coaching agreement. With that, there's still going to be 15 minutes at the first meeting to become grounded and remind.
